Academic Performance

STAAR Testing

Beginning in spring 2012, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). The STAAR program at grades 3–8 will assess the same subjects and grades that were assessed on TAKS.

The STAAR test is timed (4 hours) and is considered to be more rigourous than the TAKS test.

STAAR testing dates will be posted when they are announced

TIPS for STAAR Testing Days:

The following are ways to help your child perform well on testing day:

ü  be sure he/she gets an adequate night's sleep the night before testing. Do not send your child to school tired on testing day.

ü  be sure your child eats a nutritious breakfast on the morning of testing. Students will need a good source of energy for all the brain power that will be used.

ü  be sure to have your child arrive to school on time. The STAAR test will have a time limit therefore it is essential to begin on time. Do not let your child be absent on testing day.

ü  be sure that your child does not have a cell phone in his/her possession. Cell phones are a severe violation of testing procedures and will render your child's test void.
